It's difficult to watch families being evicted from their homes without being moved. Michael Moore’s documentary, "Capitalism: A Love Story", reviewed here by LAURA FITZGERALD, is at its best when it’s revealing the ruthless face of US capitalism and the economic crisis that has gripped it since late 2008.

The government and the employers are intensifying their assault on wages and working conditions. Following the same blueprint that they used to attack public sector pay last year, of vilifying anyone with a semblance of job security, the already measly minimum wage is now in their line of fire.

The Finance Minister, Brian Lenihan, has spelt out plans to make a further €3 billion in cuts at the next Budget. €500 million of these cuts are to come from public sector "reform" and if the unions don’t agree, he will impose further pay cuts.

The recent announcement by Willie O’Dea that there was no public money available for the regeneration of the most disadvantaged areas of Limerick city was quickly knocked off the national and local front pages by the dramatic fall from grace of Limerick’s most senior TD.
