Organise in Unions to
Fight McCreevy's Cuts!

Today's protest against McCreevy's cuts must be the start of a movement to take on this big business government. With a worldwide economic downturn beginning, it is workers who will bear the brunt through cuts, attacks on pay and conditions and jobs.

ICTU have sat on their hands and done or said practically nothing. Incredibly, while health, education and other cuts are announced these 'leaders' continue to sit down with the government in 'partnership' negotiations!

The Socialist Party believes that rank and file activists must prepare in the unions to organise action to stop McCreevy's cut backs.

Stop these liars and cheats

Ahern, McCreevy and Harney said there would be no cuts "whatsoever - secret or otherwise". They are liars and cheats.

The government will cut corporation tax from 16% to 12.5%, giving big business hundreds of millions of extra euro! Fianna Fail and the PDs are looking after the rich and powerful but have decided to make working class people pay for their mismanagment and economic crisis. Such a crisis is inevitable when the drive for profit dominates the economy.

However they can be stopped. If the unions mobilise their 500,000 members in this country alongside all the groups and sections of the population who have been hit by McCreevy's onslaught, they could force him back.

Memebers of the Socialist Party are working to turn the unions into fighting organisations that really represent working class people, such as the Civil & Public Services Union (CPSU). The CPSU has rejected the derisory benchmarking offer by 79% to 21%. The CPSU must prepare to take action for decent pay and in defence of public services.

The Socialist Party and our TD, Joe Higgins, played a key role in initiating this protest in the absence of any other political party or organisation doing so. The main opposition parties in the Dail have shown themselves to be incapable of taking on this government. They offer no alternative to McCreevy's agenda of cuts. We are offering a fighting alternative and a socialist alternative for working class people.

If you are interested in finding out more about how we can organise against this government and the ideas of the Socialist Party come to the meeting adevrtised below.
