Socialist Youth Campaigns

Socialist Youth have launched, and been involved in many campiagns since our foundation in 2001.

We are currently focused on our End Low Pay Campaign, set up to ensure that young workers (north & south) recieve the same rights and pay as all other workers.

In mid 2004 we launched our Stop Bush Campaign to get young people active in opposing the visit to Ireland by the war criminal George 'Dubya' Bush.

In 2003, we set up a broad based anti-war group for young people, called Youth Against War - which played a major role in organising school walkouts, north and south, in opposition to the Iraq war - as well as bringing young people out on the demonstrations (you can read about these walkouts here).

Our members are actively involved in the bin tax battle and the blockades. One of our members was jailed for taking part in a peaceful anti-bin tax protest in Tallagh.

In UCD we helped found the Campaign for Free Education, a group which is committed to fighting fees and student cut-backs. In TCD and UCC our members have been involved in stoping the Nazi BNP from speaking.

During the Nice referenda, we campiagned for a 'No' vote and were involved with the (pro-choice) 'Alliance for a No Vote' during the 2002 abortion referdum.

We have also orgainised demonstrations and actions on a number of issues, such as racism and the Iraq war.
